The Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) Safety Coalition is a regional entity of five parishes and is comprised of members who work in related areas of transportation safety such as law enforcement, engineers, planners, medical personnel, public officials, school administration, and more.
The vision of the Southwest Louisiana Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) is to reach destination zero deaths on roadways in the region and support the statewide vision.
The mission is to reduce the human and economic toll on Southwest Louisiana’s multi-modal surface transportation system due to traffic crashes through collaboration and an integrated 4E (engineering, enforcement, education and emergency response) approach.
The Coalition intends to develop and implement an Action Plan that uses data analysis and promotes citizen involvement bringing about a program of priorities designed to reduce the incidence of traffic crashes within the Southwest region, integrate safer design and identify target populations.
Reduce the number and the rate of motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries by four percent annually.
Reduce the number and the rate of motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries by half by 2030.
This goal is made actionable through implementing proven countermeasures for each emphasis area.
